SERIOUS ADVERSE EVENTS RELATED TO CANNABIS USED FOR MEDICAL PURPOSES

What did we do?

We surveyed 2,800 pediatricians and pediatrics subspecialists monthly from December 2019 to November 2022.

What were we looking for?

Children under 18, who had serious or life-threatening adverse events (Emergency observation hospitalization, persistent or significant disability, or death) related to cannabis product used for medical purposes.

What were the results?

Less than 5 cases met our eligibility criteria in three years.

Good news! We have been actively looking for serious harms related to medical cannabis use in children, and aren’t finding them.

Bad news! There are less than 5 cases, so ethically we cannot share the data to protect the anonymity of the patients/pediatricians who reported.
